People seeking North East bus and Metro travel advice are being advised to rely on local online tools provided by Nexus.
These include searchable journey planning tools and 'MyTravel' maps showing the next services from your nearest bus stop or Metro station on nexus.org.uk.
A new Google public transport service launched in January is aimed primarily at national and city to city journeys, and so does not contain most local bus and Metro information.
Tobyn Hughes, Director of Customer Services at Nexus, said: “Google Maps has launched a ‘public transport’ planner of use for long-distance journeys between city centres, but for local travel we advise people use the existing journey planning tools at nexus.org.uk.
“This now includes MyTravel – a new service where you can find your nearest bus or Metro stop on a local map and see the next departures from it, as well as a journey planner where you can enter start and end points.”
The website nexus.org.uk has both a conventional and mobile-adapted website for people on the go. People can also call North East Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 to speak to an operator for travel advice.
Nexus.org.uk is used by more than 2.4 million visitors a year. As well as travel information it offers season ticket purchase, provides live updates on Metro services and details of diversions and disruptions to bus and Metro services.
