Seven books to read on your commute.

Posted: 07 Mar 2024

One of the best things about Metro travel is that – compared to driving – you don’t need to concentrate on where you’re going, which is a great excuse to get lost in a good book!

Our resident bookworm has come up with seven books for you to enjoy on your Metro journey.

In The Blink of An Eye - Jo Callaghan

This crime-based book charts the story of cold cases that have mysteriously reopened. With twists and turns throughout it will have you on the edge of your Metro seat.

Atomic Habits – James Clear

No matter your goals, Atomic Habits offers a book designed for improving every day. James Clear, one of the world's leading experts on habit formation, reveals practical strategies that will teach you accurately how to form good habits, break bad ones, and master the tiny behaviours that lead to remarkable results. This self-help style book will change your routines and help you revaluate how you form habits.

The Women In Me - Britney Spears

Charting the life of the global princess of pop, the world was gripped in 2021 when she gave her voice on one of the biggest court cases in the history of American law. The ‘Free Britney’ movement gripped America and now the woman at the centre has her say in her own words.

Lessons in Chemistry - Bonnie Garmus

You may already be familiar with this novel, thanks to the Apple TV+ dramatisation of the book starring Brie Larson.
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing. But it’s the 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equal opportunity. Forced to quit, she reluctantly signs on as the host of a cookery show, Supper at Six. But her revolutionary approach to cooking, fuelled by scientific and rational commentary, grabs the notice of a nation. Soon, a legion of overlooked housewives find themselves daring to change the status quo. One molecule at a time.

The Thursday Murder Club - Richard Osman

Agatha Christie meets Midsomer Murders in this thriller written by Pointless co-host Richard Osman. The book follows the village life of a murder club, when suddenly a brutal murder gives them their first live case.

Fool Me Once - Harlan Coben

Who hasn’t been gripped by Michelle Keegan on Netflix in Fool Me Once, the thriller has been consistently in the top 10 since its release earlier this year? We love the pace of this book, with a huge amount of time spent exploring the different character relationships.

The GCHQ Puzzle Book- GCHQ

Rounding off our list is the infamous GCHQ puzzle book, produced directly by the government agency of the same name! Take on and crack puzzles by some of the most skilled code breakers in the world.
