No trains are running between Pelaw and South Hylton in either direction today, due to the National Rail strike (which Nexus is not part of). Metro season tickets will be accepted on the following bus services in the affected area: Stagecoach services X24, 18/18A, 8, 10/11, Go North East services 9, 56 and Gateshead Central Taxis 558.

Tomorrow, 19 August, services between Pelaw and South Hylton will begin later, the first train Pelaw to South Hylton will be 7.13am and the first train from South Hylton 7.50am. For more details or for help planning your journey visit nexus.org.uk

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- No trains between Pelaw and South Hylton

Sunday 21 August after about 10.00pm. 

No trains will run between Pelaw and South Hylton in either direction on Sunday 21 August after about 10.00pm (the time will vary depending on location and direction of travel).  To allow Network Rail to carry out maintenance work.  The last train from Pelaw towards South Hylton will be 10.13pm and the last train from South Hylton towards Pelaw will be 10.52pm.  A replacement bus service, number 901 will be running, calling at or close to all stations Heworth to South Hylton.    

Trains will be running to all other stations but will not be to the usual timetable. More details are available in the Timetable changes section.

- No trains between South Gosforth and Shiremoor

Improvement Works - Tuesday 30 August until Friday 2 September 

No trains will run between South Gosforth and Shiremoor in either direction for four days, Tuesday 30 August to Friday 2 September.  To allow for essential overhead power line work.

Replacement bus service number 900 will be running between Regent Centre and Shiremoor.  Metro tickets and passes will also be valid on local buses and routes direct to Newcastle city centre or to connect with Metro at other stations.

Trains will be running between South Shields - Regent Centre, South Hylton-Airport and Shiremoor - St James, but may not be to the usual timetable.

- Metro Flow Major Line Closure

Metro Flow 12 week Major Line Closure

From Monday 12 September no trains will run in either direction between Pelaw and South Shields, to allow for the Metro Flow project to continue and other maintenance improvement work.  Services between Pelaw and South Shields will return on Sunday 4 December.

Trains will be running elsewhere on the system but may not be to usual timetable so please check train times before travelling.

Replacement bus services
There will be two frequent replacement bus services in operation.  Your Metro ticket/pass will be valid on these services and the drivers will be selling tickets. 

  • Service 900 which will call at or close to all stations Heworth - South Shields
  • Service X900 an express service which calls at Heworth, Jarrow and South Shields only

Due to National Rail strike action on Thursday 18 August (which Nexus are not part of) Metro services are unable to operate on Network Rail infrastructure.  Therefore, no trains will run between Pelaw and South Hylton in either direction all day on Thursday 18 August.  In addition, some early morning and late evening services elsewhere on the system will not operate.

On Friday 19 August Metro services will start later than usual between Pelaw and South Hylton and some early morning trains elsewhere on the system will not operate.  First train from Pelaw towards South Hylton will be 7.13am and the first train from South Hylton will be 7.50am.

Metro season tickets will be accepted on the following services between Pelaw and South Hylton:
Stagecoach: X24,18/18A, 8, 10/11
Go North East: 9, 56
Gateshead Central Taxis: 558

On Sunday 21 August Metro services will start later than usual between Pelaw and South Hylton and some early morning trains elsewhere on the system will not operate.  First train from Pelaw towards South Hylton will be 7.21am and the first train from South Hylton will be 8.00am.  Also on this day Network Rail are carrying out planned evening maintenance work.  No trains will run between Pelaw and South Hylton in either direction after about 10.00pm, (time varies depending on location and direction of travel).  A replacement bus service will be running on the evening.  Replacement bus details.

Trains will run to a weekday timetable without the additional peak services.  Train times for key stations shown below.

Revised Metro timetable Sunday 11 September - Great North Run Day

Extra services will be running but trains will be very busy, please allow time for your journey.  During the day some stations will have limited access, when stations are closed trains will run through the station without stopping.  The revised train timetable showing key stations is listed below.
