There are delays of up to 30 mins between South Gosforth and South Shields , up to 30 mins between South Shields and South Gosforth, this is due to a failed train.

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- No trains between Wallsend and Monkseaton

- Major Line Closure Chichester - South Shields

From Monday 1 October to Saturday 3 November, no trains will run between Chichester and South Shields.  This is to allow for track and signal upgrades for the new South Shields interchange.

Getting to and from South Shields town centre will still be easy as a frequent replacement bus will run between the two stations.  Tickets and passes will be valid on the bus and the driver will also sell tickets.  Your journey will take longer so please leave additional time for your journey.

- Chichester platform 2 closure

Chichester platform 2 will be closed from 4 November until about August 2019, due to signalling constraints in place while building work on the new South Shields interchange takes place.  During the closure, if you’d like to travel from Chichester towards Pelaw, board a train from platform 1, travel to South Shields and remain on the train.  Anyone wishing to leave the train at Chichester after travelling from South Shields should stay on the train to Tyne Dock, change platforms and return to Chichester platform 1.  For help planning your journey call 0191 20 20 747 (lines open Monday to Friday 8.00am - 6.00pm)
