No Metro disruptions

 

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- Sunderland Station reduced opening hours

Sunderland Station has reduced opening hours to: Monday-Saturday 6.00am-10.30pm and Sunday 6.30am-10.30pm. Outside of these times trains will run through the station without stopping.



 


 

- Airport alternative exit

The doorway to the Airport terminal from the station will be open from 7.00am until 1.00pm only, until further notice.  Outside of these times please use the alternative doorway located midway up the covered ramp walkway that leads from the station concourse.



 


 

- Haymarket entrance and exit

Haymarket entry and exit changes

To assist with social distancing the entrance from St Mary's Place has been closed.  Please use the doorway from Northumberland Street to enter the station.  The doorway near to the TravelShop and Haymarket bus station is now exit only.



 


 

- Park Lane platform 2 lift out of use

On Tuesday 9 June from 7.30am until 12.00pm. If you require step free access and wish to travel from Park Lane towards Sunderland board a train from platform 1, travel to University, change to platform 2 and board a train to continue your journey. If you need step free access and want to leave the train at Park Lane platform 2 (towards Sunderland), stay on the train to Sunderland, change platform and return to Park Lane platform 1. Your journey will take longer so please leave extra travel time.



 


 

- Manors platform 1 lift out of use

On Wednesday 10 June from 7.30am until 12.00pm.  If you require step free access and wish to travel from Manors towards Byker board a train from platform 2, travel to Monument, change to platform 3 and board a train to continue your journey. If you need step free access and want to leave the train at Manors platform 1 (towards Byker), stay on the train to Byker, change platform and return to Manors platform 2.



 


 

- No trains between South Gosforth and Shiremoor

No trains will run between South Gosforth and Shiremoor all day Saturday 20 June to allow for overhead line work.  A replacement bus service will be running between Regent Centre and Shiremoor (calling at South Gosforth).  If buying your ticket from the bus driver please have the correct change.

Your journey will take longer so please leave extra travel time.  Replacement bus stop locations are listed below and timetables will be posted soon. 



 


 

- No trains between South Gosforth and Shiremoor

No trains will run between South Gosforth and Shiremoor on Sunday 21 June until about 6.15pm (the time varies depending on location), to allow for overhead line work.  A replacement bus service will be running between Regent Centre and Shiremoor (calling at South Gosforth).  If buying your ticket from the bus driver please have the correct change.

Metro timetable - Updated 1 June 9.40am

If you need to travel by Metro please follow these guidelines, stay 2 metres (6ft) apart where possible, wash or sanitise your hands regularly and wear a face covering.

A normal service is running Monday to Friday between St James-South Shields and Airport-Pelaw.  Between Pelaw - South Hylton a 24 minute service is running.  From about 8.00pm the service frequency reduces to a train every 30 minutes.  On weekends trains are running every 24/30 minutes.  The additional services will assist with social distancing.

Please note Sunderland Station opening times have changed.  The station will be open 6.00am-10.30pm Monday to Saturday and 6.30am-10.30pm on Sunday.  Outside of these times trains will run through the station without stopping.

Weekday timetable change from 1 June

From Monday 1 June, there will be a 24-minute daytime train frequency between Pelaw and South Hylton, and a 12-minute daytime train frequency between Airport and Pelaw.  On an evening the train frequency will change to 30-minutes between Airport and South Hylton.

This temporary timetable is required as complex overhead line repairs are needed on Network Rail infrastructure.

Only one platform is open at St Peter's and Sunderland, anyone wishing to travel towards Newcastle from either of these stations should use platform 1 at St Peter's and platform 2 at Sunderland.
