When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- Northumberland Car Park - partial closure

The ground floor level of the car park is open, all other levels are closed until further notice to allow for essential maintenance. On the ground floor there are 22 parking bays and 5 disabled bays.  Alternative parking is available at Four Lane Ends station. We're sorry for any inconvenience.



 


 

- Airport alternative entrance/exit 

The doors between Airport station and Newcastle International Airport terminal will close at 9.00pm and reopen at 6.00am each day.  Access to/from the station is possible via the alternative doorway located midway up the ramp that leads to the terminal.  This doorway leads from the side of the station towards the main entrance of the terminal.



 


 

- Seaburn platform 1 lift refurbishment

Information updated 28 July.

The lift at Seaburn platform 1 will be out of use until 8 August, returning to service on Monday 9 August, to allow for refurbishment work.

If you require step free access to or from platform 1 at Seaburn use the station ramp or if you prefer using a lift we advise the following:

  • If you'd like to travel from platform 1 (towards South Hylton), board a train from platform 2, travel to East Boldon, change platform and continue your journey.
  • If you wish to leave the train at platform 1 (travelling from Heworth direction) stay on the train until St Peter's, change platform and return to Seaburn platform 2.

Your journey will take longer so please leave extra time for travel.  For help planning your journey call 0191 20 20 747 (open 9.00am - 5.00pm). 



 


 

- Seaburn platform 2 lift refurbishment

The lift at Seaburn platform 2 will be out of use from Monday 9 August returning to service on Monday13 September, to allow for refurbishment work.

- No trains between Hebburn-South Shields

On Sunday 5 September no trains will run between Hebburn and South Shields until about 6.40pm (time depends on location), to allow for maintenance work.  Trains will be running to all other destinations.  Please note at Hebburn during the work, only platform 1 will be in use, for both train arrivals (from Pelaw) and for train departures (towards Pelaw).  Both platforms will be in use once the work is complete.

A replacement bus service, the number 900 will be in operation, calling at or close to all stations from Heworth to South Shields. Metro tickets and passes will be valid on the replacement bus.  Remember to touch in and out using your smartcard at the start and end of your journey.  You can buy a ticket from the replacement bus driver, but please ensure you have the correct change.

You journey will take longer so please leave extra travel time and check train and bus times before starting your journey.

The first trains to run in the area after the work will be the 6.39pm from Hebburn (towards South Shields) and the 6.56pm from South Shields (towards Hebburn).

Due to the planned maintenance work taking place between Hebburn and South Shields on Sunday 5 September (more info here) some train times have had to be changed.  Please check times before travelling.
