On our Metro line we have a variety of amazing food and drink tenants. So, whether you're hopping on or off, don't miss these hidden gems right outside the Metro doors.
- Dil & The Bear
This superb café specialise in seasonal, homemade cakes and baked treats. They also have a fantastic food menu, with favourites being their steak sandwich or Mexican salad bowls. In May 2013, Dilaila Galbraith opened Dil & The Bear, at its first location in Tynemouth. Due to the cafes popularity, Galbraith opened up her second location in the Whitley Bay Metro station. This spot also has a fully-stocked bar and can be hired out for private events - the perfect party location.

2. Awesome Frank's
West Jesmond Metro station has welcomed a vibrant and delicious food outlet. Awesome Frank's serves up the best deli sandwiches with fillings including Northumberland crab ,with bread from local bakery Northern Rye. The décor in Awesome Frank's is heavily influenced by Wes Anderson and the name comes from the owner's son. Alex Walker, owner of Awesome Franks, is a successful food entrepreneur. Best known for her successful Scream for Pizza chain, she is on a venture of bringing quirky décor and delicious food to the heart of West Jesmond.

3. The Train Line
The ultimate dessert spot can be found at Seaburn Metro station. The Train Line, offers up homemade sweet treats and delicious hot drinks. One of their specialities is their warm cookie dough which you can get alongside cookie dough puddle pots. They also do 16oz milkshakes, perfect for those with a sweeter tooth.

4. The Olive Branch
The Olive Branch at Park Lane offers a range of tasty pies, jacket potatoes and sandwiches. The small shipping container style premises is truly a hidden gem and one of the best places to stop off and get some delicious food.

5. Off The Rails Coffee Co
Monkseaton Metro station is home to Off The Rails Coffee co, an independent coffee shop serving up locally sourced coffee and snacks. Owner, Tom, has created a warming welcoming atmosphere. The interior has been kept classic with rustic edges, making it the perfect stop off to take a comfy seat.

6. The Travellin' Brew
A Tyne and Wear Metro worker swapped a career in the railway industry to start his own business at Heworth Interchange. Steve McCoy has a passion for offering high quality barista coffee at affordable prices. Heworth Interchange has over one million passengers passing through each year, meaning Travellin' Brew is at the perfect location to serve up hot drinks for everyone, especially those on their way to work.

7. GoodBrews
GoodBrews, which began trading in 2014, are situated in the heart of Gateshead Interchange. The interchange is used by four million passengers each year for bus and Metro journeys. Anthony, a previous bus driver, and his partner Samantha, set up the shop with the intention to create a fresh and welcoming look. At GoodBrews they use traditional, well-known local suppliers such as Ringtons. All of their sandwiches and cakes are locally sourced too while other items on the menu are made freshly in the shop.

8. Left Luggage Room
Left Luggage Room is a specialist craft beer pub in the heart of Monkseaton Metro station. Located in the former parcel and left luggage room, they serve up a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Their aim is to provide great drinks and conversation in a historic building. Owners Steve and Andy met at an audition for a Fleetwood Mac tribute band and have remained inseparable ever since, they came up with the concept of having a micro-pub that serves the best drinks. The interior has a industrial parquet floor, rustic splinter laden and a combination of furniture which Andy had in his garage and some other statement pieces from a skip in Cambois- but don't be put off, all these add to the cosy and homely atmosphere.

9. Greggs
What would a Metro line be without at least one Greggs at a station? South Shields is home to Greggs. Serving up a variety of pastries, baked goods and their infamous sausage rolls. Greggs is the perfect take-away spot for when your short for time and want something that will keep you warm and full. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High street, in Newcastle. Now Greggs has over 30 outlets in Tyne and Wear alone!

Nestled in Monkseaton Metro station, you will find authentic and delicious Indian food. At Spice Junction they strive to provide great food and excellent service, Their mission is to provide fresh, innovative, healthy foods using only the finest ingredients. Some of their most popular dishes are their Tikka Masala, a dazzling sweet dish cooked with a whole variety of herbs and spices; their Tandoor mixed grill served with naan and their Tandoori mix platter which is perfect for larger groups.
