Wearside Coastal days out

Take the Metro to Seaburn and explore this wonderful part of our coastline. Remember Kids Go Free on Metro – that’s up to three kids aged 11 and under travelling for free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.
Whitburn
Whitburn may be best known for its Grade II-listed windmill, however visitors are tempted to stick around for its stunning cliff-top views and rare limestone rock formations. Bring your cameras! Whitburn Point Local Nature Reserve is a reclaimed colliery land where birds now thrive.
For foodies, Latimer's Seafood are the best for fresh local fish. Latimer's takeaway The Hatch has both indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for looking out onto the North Sea.
Seaburn
The perfect spot to bring the whole family. Seldons Leisureworld has been a popular attraction for over 40 years in Seaburn, it has rides and traditional 2p machines. After all the activities, you will be hungry, so head over to the STACK for a variety of street food options. Sport is often on the big screen as well as live music on the stage.
If street food isn't for you and you want the traditional seaside experience, head to Minchella's for fish and chips. The most popular food destination in Seaburn, however, has to be The Tram Shelter with small plates and sharing boards courtesy of Blacks Corner. Order the focaccia, oil and balsamic or the Lindisfarne oysters to share.
3. Roker
A bit further down the coast in Roker, there is the Roker Park where children can let off some energy. The park is home to its own miniature steam train. For the more adventurous there is also the water sports skill centre at Adventure Sunderland. A popular tour is the now reopened Roker pier where you can learn all about the history of this iconic structure.
The Roker food scene is very dog friendly. Whether it's Grannie Annie's and Cole Kitchen for sandwiches or bottomless brunch and pizza nights at Tin of Sardines, your four-legged friend is more than welcome to join.
For the perfect Wearside day, take Metro. With Kids 11 and under travelling free when accompanied with a ticket-holding adult, there is fun for all the family across Tyne and Wear.
