Posted: 24 May 2024

East Boldon Station opened in 2002 when Metro was extended to Sunderland, making East Boldon a fairly new station in the history of the Tyne and Wear Metro. With a unique set of independent retailers, cafés and restaurants it’s a great place to visit. We have listed six places to try below

O’Brien Architectural
This a unique business in the North East, one of only a handful operating in the local areathe family-run firm is committed to salvage and recycling on a large scale. With everything from ornate antiques to unique furniture, plus lots more like garden furniture and unique garden accessories too.  It’s a great place to window shop and rake for a hidden gem!

Deja Brew

Based at O’Brien’s is a recently opened café, with its unique blend coffee, which you can purchase on site or take away, they also offer coffee beans to buy to takeaway, it’s a rich blend that is full of flavour.  There is also a huge selection of homemade cakes and sandwiches too. It’s got both indoor and outdoor seating so whatever the weather you are guaranteed a nice visit.

Beggar’s Bridge
located directly opposite O’Brien’s is Beggar’s Bridge a popular destination for having a drink in its dedicated beer garden, but also a welcome place for families to visit for a meal out. It’s a large pub, with lots of local ales but also lager, speciality spirits and plenty of soft drinks. In the summer months the garden does get pretty busy so its best to head there early to avoid disappointment.

Og Gym
Brand new for 2024 is a state of the art new gym, the perfect place to work on those new year’s resolutions, located just beside East Boldon Metro, directly next door to Beggar’s Bridge pub.  The gym specialises in CrossFit, a fitness method which focuses on strength and conditioning, with the aim of helping people to become physically stronger and faster. With a beautiful outside garden, featuring real olive trees and inside a chic interior it really is an exquisite restored building. They serve woodfired sourdough pizza with unique toppings and their trademark dish is the charcutier boards with meats and cheeses and every kind of chutney imaginable.

Located a few shops down from Black’s corner. A mix of a bakery and restaurant. There’s a range of cakes, muffins and pastries and the international kitchen restaurant with its menu of delicious meals (including a kid’s menu).
