Where to go in Whitley Bay

Whitley Bay is a seaside town located on the coast of North East England with two nearby Metro stations and lots for tourists to enjoy. Here are some places you might want to visit while in Whitley Bay:
St. Mary's Lighthouse
This iconic lighthouse sits on an island off the coast of Whitley Bay and is accessible by a causeway during low tide. It was completed in 1898 and protected shipping on hazardous rocks that could literally wreck ships. Visitors can climb to the top of the 137 steps to the top of the lighthouse for stunning views of the North Sea. There is also a gift shop which is full of unique and quirky souvenirs. The lighthouse is in newly created wetlands habitats and rock pools too. Great for wellie- wearing little ones. For more information please go to St Mary's Lighthouse | Visit North Tyneside
Whitley Bay Mini Golf
Located near St Mary’s Lighthouse, this seaside-themed Mini golf is guaranteed fun for the whole family with 18 holes. The course is suitable for all ages and abilities and it can be privately booked for larger gatherings. Open seasonally from Easter to October, it’s a great way to get outdoors and sample the fresh air of Whitley Bay - whatever the weather.
Whitley Bay Beach
The town's main beach is a popular destination for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing. It also offers a scenic promenade with cafes and restaurants. A great one to visit is Rendezvous Café, with original 1950s design and branding its harps back to a time with Formica tables and traditional food - and of course ice cream! Right next door is the unique art gallery on the on The Links with lots of great art to view plus more sweet treats to try. You can find out more about them here- Home - The Links Art Gallery, Whitley Bay (linksgallery.org)

Spanish City
This beautiful building was once a popular amusement park and has been recently restored to its former glory. It features a variety of restaurants including the award-winning fish and chip restaurant under the historic dome, Trenchers. There is also a champagne bar, a steak restaurant and plenty of space for any event - with independent traders in the units below the dome as there would been when it was constructed back in 1910.
Whitley Bay Ice Rink
A firm favourite whatever the weather is Whitley Bay Ice Rink, located a walk away inland, it’s a great one for all the family and friends. With regular events, discos and DJs it’s a great place to meet with friends and enjoy a cool down on a hot summer’s day. Not only is skating good exercise, it’s also great for improving coordination and balance - you can even try a figure skating class. This is the only ice rink in the north east so one not to miss out. More details here- Whitley Bay Ice Rink | Ice Skating fun for all
