Easter Fun at Tyne and Wear Museums 2025

The Easter Holidays are approaching so we have rounded up some of our Easter activities that are taking place at museums across Tyne and Wear!
Stephenson Steam Railway
On 20 and 21 April 2025, enjoy Easter at the railway. Join the Easter Bunny and take a rise on the Easter Eggspress! Follow an Easter trail around the museum to win a chocolate egg prize at the end of the trail. Go along in Easter dress or create your own Easter crown. Take a photo of yourself at the museum and tag Stephenson Steam railway on Facebook. The best photo could win a 2025 Family Season Ticket.
Train departs at 10:30am, 11:30am, 2:15pm and 3:15pm on 20 and 21 April.

Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens
Running from 5 to 26 April 2025 at the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is a Dino egg hunt. Can you find all the baby dinosaurs that have hatched from their eggs? There are 8 to find, hidden around the Museum galleries and Winter Gardens. Find them all to claim a themed prize. £1 per trail. Trails can be purchased from the Museum Shop.

South Shields Museum
South Shields Museum are hosting a range of activities for children throughout the Easter holidays. On 15 April visit the SCRAN: Food and drink in South Tyneside exhibition and find out how big the largest leek was, afterwards heading to the Learning Room to create patterns and prints using fruit and vegetables. The following Tuesday there is another session this time exploring the Shields, On the River Tyne exhibition and discover the beautiful ships that sailed on the river Tyne. Once again heading to the Learning Room but this time to create your own beautiful boat using collage materials.
South Shields Museum are also hosting Angela's Ark, on 17 and 24 April 2025, an exciting animal handling and interaction session where you can meet amazing creatures, learn fascinating facts and enjoy hands-on crafty fun. Perfect for little explorers aged 4+. There is two sessions per day, first session is 11am to 12pm and the second is from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.

Great North Museum: Hancock
The Great North Museum: Hancock have a range of activities on going this Easter holidays. From sculpture sessions to mouse tales story times. A highlight at the museum for the holidays is the Moving Parts Arts Puppetry Festival, from 19 April to 27 April. The festival offers a wide variety of free and ticketed puppetry events, including workshops, films, talks and performances for all the family.

5. Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children's Books
Running from 12 to 27 April, Seven Stories are bringing elephant-astic craft to the Easter Holidays this year. Build your own small wooden elephant and then decorate using colourful pens and bright craft materials and enjoy a jungle themed Storytime too.
