Rainy Day fun- Cinemas

Lets face it… we get a lot of wet weather here in the North East, especially on bank holidays and in the winter! So we thought we’d make a quick guide of how best to explores the region’s cinemas -  ideal for a rainy day out without getting wet.


Here are some great options that are accessible via the Metro.

Jam Jar - Whitley Bay 

Getting to Jam Jar Cinema in Whitley Bay is quite convenient, especially if you’re using Metro, Whitley Bay Metro Station is just a 2-minute walk from the cinema. It offers three screens showing a mix of the latest blockbusters, indie films, and family-friendly movies. They also have a lounge and bar area for a relaxed pre or post-movie drink.

New Cinema Alert - Omniplex Sunderland 

With 12 screens there is chance for unlimited cinematic entertainment in Sunderland city centre, located just five minutes’ walk away from Sunderland Central. With senior deals and kids’ offers there are lots of ways to save on a cinema visit. It’s also got a range of arcade games to visit while waiting for your popcorn. 

Everyman Cinema - Newcastle 

A luxury option located just opposite Theatre Royal in Newcastle, really close to Monument Metro station. 

In this historic cinema you can enjoy a more intimate boutique experience, with luxury food and drink on offer as well as sumptuous cocktails. 
 

 

VUE – Gateshead 

Tickets at Vue Gateshead start from just £4.99, so head to Gateshead for that big screen action without the price tag. With local access to Gateshead Interchange it’s within easy reach of the whole Metro system. 

The Gate Cineworld - Newcastle 

Cineworld at The Gate features the North East’s first ScreenX and Superscreen, along with 4DX. ScreenX extends the movie across three screens for a 270-degree viewing experience, while 4DX includes motion seats and special effects like wind, fog, and scents. Cineworld screens a wide range of films, from the latest blockbusters to independent films. The Gate is a premier leisure complex in Newcastle, offering a variety of dining and entertainment options. It’s conveniently located near Monument Metro.  With an onsite Starbucks too for those coffee moments with your film of choice.

Customs House - South Shields 

Centrally location for both Metro and Ferry the Customs house cinema is perfectly placed to see the next big blockbuster, with a range of showing everyday you are never short of a film to see their.

 Tyneside Cinema - Newcastle 

A unique historic cinema, Monument is the nearest metro station, less than one minute walk away (96 yards to be exact). Tyneside Cinema is a charity, and is the North East’s only full-time independent cultural cinema. They host a vibrant public programme of films and events by filmmakers and artists from around the world that is unavailable anywhere else, giving audiences access to the full range of the art of cinema. Housed in a beautiful Grade II listed heritage building, its also UK’s only surviving newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema.

Tyneside cinema

Cineworld Boldon - Brockley Whins 

our final cinema on the Metro, located in Boldon. its got everything you would expect from modern multiplex cinema. It also has Superscreen a great way to see the latest films on a even bigger screen than normal. With Starbucks, Candy King and more on hand it worth a trip.
