Planned changes to Nexus funded service 91

7 December 2021

What are we consulting about?

Planned changes to Nexus funded (AM/PM peak) trips on service 91 in Gateshead, Newcastle, and North Tyneside.

Why are we considering changes to these services?

Nexus currently fund several weekday AM/PM peak trips between Newcastle – Team Valley Trading Estate and one early morning trip from North Tyneside (departing West Chirton at 04:53). As we emerge from the pandemic, travel patterns have changed.  We recently completed a review of the services we fund in Gateshead, Newcastle & North Tyneside, including the service 91, to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of communities and provide good value for money.

The review of the service 91 has identified low levels of demand on certain journeys and a need to improve the overall efficiency of the service 91, to make it more cost effective to operate.

What changes are we proposing?

Reduce the number of trips between Newcastle and Team Valley to better meet demand levels

Retime certain journeys to improve the overall efficiency of the operation.

How would customers/residents be affected by these changes?

  • The 06:08 trip will be retimed to depart Team Valley at 06:03.
  • The 06:30 trip will be retimed to depart Newcastle at 06:25.
  • The 07:00 trip will be retimed to depart Newcastle at 07:05.
  • The 07:25 trip will be unchanged (this trip is currently operated commercially by Go North East)
  • The 07:55 trip will be retimed to depart Newcastle at 07:45.
  • The 08:25 trip from Newcastle will be unchanged.
  • The 09:00 trip from Newcastle will be withdrawn.
  • The 17:38 trip from Team Valley will be withdrawn.
