Planned changes to Nexus funded services 11 and 19

7 December 2021

What are we consulting about?

Planned changes to Nexus funded (evening/Sunday) trips on services 11 & 19 in North Tyneside.

Why are we considering changes to these services?

As we emerge from the pandemic, travel patterns have changed.  We recently reviewed the services we fund in North Tyneside to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of communities and provide good value for money.  This review highlighted very low demand for evening/Sunday trips on service 19.

What changes are we proposing?

Service 11 – Amend evening/Sunday route to additionally serve Ferry Landing/Fish Quay.

Service 19 – Cancel all evening/Sunday trips due to low demand.

How would customers/residents be affected by these changes?

Service 11

  • Evening/Sunday trips additionally serve the Ferry Landing and Fish Quay
  • Frequency as now (half-hourly) but timetable changed to connect with Ferry
  • Buses, travelling in both directions, will serve the following roads in the Fish Quay/North Shields area for the first-time during evening (1800 – 2330) and Sunday (0930 – 2330) hours: Clive Street, Liddell Street, Bell Street, Union Quay, Union Road, Clifford’s Moat, Brewhouse Bank, Bird Street & Charlotte Street

Service 19

  • All evening/Sunday trips on service 19 would no longer operate
  • Alternative provision would include:
    • North Shields – Ferry Landing/Royal Quays/Percy Main (revised service 11)
    • North Shields – Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate (service 1)
    • North Shields – Silverlink (service 306)
    • North Shields – Cobalt South (service 310)
    • Silverlink – Cobalt (service 22)
    • Cobalt – Hadrian Road/Wallsend with access for Metro (service 22)
    • Cobalt – Whitley Bay with access for Metro (service 309)
    • Cobalt – Newcastle with access for Metro (services 22 or 309)
  • The following direct links would no longer be available during evening/Sunday hours
    • Cobalt/Silverlink – Northumberland Park/Percy Main
