Planned changes to Nexus funded services 333/335

7 December 2021

What are we consulting about?

Planned changes to Nexus funded services 333/335 in North Tyneside.

Why are we considering changes to these services?

As we emerge from the pandemic, travel patterns have changed.  We recently completed a review of the services we fund in North Tyneside to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of communities and provide good value for money.  This review highlighted an option to merge services 333 and 335.  We believe that this would create some desirable new links, whilst also enabling a resource saving which would allow us to deliver improvements on other parts of our network.

What changes are we proposing?

  • Service 333 cancelled
  • Service 335 extended to additionally serve Ferry Landing and Fish Quay

How would customers/residents be affected by these changes?

Service 333

  • North Shields – Ferry landing/Fish Quay links instead covered by revised service 335
  • Link between North Shields – Linskill Terrace/King Edward Rd covered by Arriva service 306
  • Tynemouth Broadway (between King Edward Road and Beach Road) no longer served but Go North East service 1 (from Beach Road) and Arriva service 306 (from Manor Road) available within 400m for most residents
  • Special fare arrangement allowing free travel between Ferry Landing – Town Centre for customers with valid Ferry ticket would continue to apply on service 335

Service 335

  • Route extended to additionally serve Ferry Landing/Fish Quay
  • Monday – Friday daytime trips half-hourly between North Shields Ferry – Quorum Park
  • Saturday daytime trips half hourly between Ferry Landing – Town Centre, extending hourly to/from Quorum
  • Standard weekday route within Longbenton Estate adopted on a Saturday
  • Some Monday – Friday AM/PM trips towards Quorum Park operate direct via Benton Lane (customers for Balliol/Longbenton Est permitted to remain on bus past terminus)
  • Timetable revised to allow connections with Ferry service
