Planned changes to Nexus funded services K1/K2

7 December 2021

What were we consulting about?

Planned changes to Nexus funded services K1/K2 in North Tyneside.

Why are we considering changes to these services?

As we emerge from the pandemic, travel patterns have changed.  We recently completed a review of the services we fund in North Tyneside to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of communities and provide good value for money.  This review highlighted very low demand for services K1/K2.

What changes are we proposing?

  • Service K1 cancelled
  • Service K2 route revised to additionally serve Forest Hall Shops

How would customers/residents be affected by these changes?

Service K1

  • Greenhills Estate (Killingworth) would be no longer served Monday – Friday AM/PM peaks, with customer required to walk to/from West Bailey for alternative services.
  • Local roads within Stephenson Industrial Estate (Blucher Road/Comet Row/Planet Place/Northumbrian Way) no longer served, alternative bus stops on Great Lime Road or Southgate.
  • For customers travelling between Killingworth – Four Lane Ends via West Moor & Quorum Park, alternative services are available (Arriva services 52/54 and Stagecoach services 62/X63).

Service K2

  • Route revised between West Moor – Killingworth Village to serve Forest Hall Shops (operating via Glebe Road, Briar Edge and Station Road North).  These roads are already served by other services but routing the K2 this way provides some new links, which we hope will stimulate demand.
  • The new timetable would operate hourly, Monday – Saturday (0845 – 1545)
