What are we consulting about?

Proposed allocation of Nexus subsidy for service 643 in Gateshead.

Why are we considering changes to these services?

In September 2021, Go North East introduced a new commercial network for the Whickham & Sunniside area.  The changes made included a new 643 service operating hourly, Monday – Saturday daytime, between Sunniside – Metrocentre ASDA.  The revenue generated on this service is not enough to cover the cost of operating it, however, the service receives some subsidy from central government.  This subsidy is due to end in March 2022, at which point this service will be cancelled.  We believe that this route offers some valuable links for parts of Gateshead which would otherwise be left un-served.  We therefore propose to allocate some Nexus subsidy to enable the current route/timetable to continue.

What changes are we proposing?

We propose to allocate Nexus subsidy to enable service 643 to continue.

How would customers/residents be affected by these changes?

The current timetable, route and stopping arrangements would continue to operate.
