Five ways you can help the environment on Metro.

Here are five ways you can help the environment on our system.

  1. Take Metro

This may seem an obvious one, but your choice to take Metro is saving the environment. By taking Metro you can cut carbon emissions by two thirds compared to travelling by car. Our new trains will be even more energy efficient saving enough high voltage power for every home in Tynemouth!

  2. Pick up your litter

Don't throw your litter on the floor! All our Metro stations are equipped with bins for your rubbish, this prevents harming the environment and causing visual pollution!

  3. Use reusable items

When travelling on Metro why not bring your own reusable water bottle, snack containers and coffee cups to completely minimize waste.

4. Bike to Metro station

Our Metros have designated spaces for bikes, so if need be you can continue on your journey by bike which is a greener transportation choice. Some of our Metro stations also have secure Bike racks so if your closest Metro station is beyond walking distance you can cycle there instead.

For safety reasons, dismount your bike on approaching a Metro station, never ride your bike in stations or platforms.

5. Use non-paper tickets

Instead of purchasing paper tickets that contribute to waste, use a Pop Card, this is Tyne and Wear Metro's Pay As You Go card that allows you to tap in and tap out of our system. Your card is reusable and can be topped up with funds, making it the perfect environmentally conscious choice!
