Great North Snowdogs

For ten weeks during autumn and winter 2016, the North East’s streets, parks and open spaces will become home to a series of individually designed Snowdog sculptures, painted by both well-known and undiscovered artists.

This will result in a sculpture trail, sponsored by businesses and individuals, showcasing the rich cultural offer and wealth of artistic talent in the area.

Once the trail ends, the sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for St Oswald’s Children’s Hospice. A separate trail of smaller Snowdogs, created by local school children and community groups will also be exhibited, celebrating the talent of the young people of the North East.

We're missing the Great North Snowdogs so we're delighted that St Oswald's will be sending them off in style with a Farewell Event at Gateshead International Stadium. You'll be able to see all 61 big Snowdogs together from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 December and get into the Christmas spirit with their festive market.

Tickets for the Farewell Event are priced at £3 and are subject to booking fees. Gateshead International Stadium is just a short walk from Gateshead Stadium Metro Station. Metro Snowdog family wristbands are available. Click here, to find out more.

As Presenting Partners of the trail, Tyne and Wear Metro are delighted to support both the trail and St Oswald's Children's Hospice. And with much of the trail accessible by Metro, it's the perfect way to see the trail and enjoy the best of our region. Download our Snowdogs map by Metro or our walking guides, found at the bottom of this page to start your adventure.

Download an activity pack, found at the bottom of this page, or look out for our staff handing out packs and stickers during the trail.

We asked our twitter followers to help us rename all 60 Metro stations in celebration of the Great North Snowdogs trail. We were delighted with the response and you can see our Snowdogs Metro map below. Look out for a few surprises next time you travel on Metro.
