Pay As You Go on Metro
You can travel as many times as you like in one day. You are charged each time you travel until you reach the daily price cap for the number of zones you’ve travelled in. You’ll never pay more than the daily price cap for the number of zones you’ve travelled in.
The price depends on the number of zones you travel in.
You can also use Pop PAYG to pay for travel on selected bus services and the Shields Ferry. Find out more here: Pop Pay As You Go.
How to buy
First you’ll need to get a Pop PAYG card. Pop PAYG cards are free but must be purchased with a £10 balance. You can get your Pop PAYG card online, from any Nexus TravelShop or selected Payzone stores.
Once you have your Pop PAYG card you can register it online for a Pop Shop account at popcard.org.uk. You can top your Pop PAYG card up to a maximum balance of £90. Top it up:
- At any Metro station ticket machine
- At a Nexus TravelShop
