Tap Rooms to visit on Metro
The popularity of real ale and alternative lager continues to grow in the North East with new micropubs popping up all over the region. There are several pubs and bars to visit near Metro stations, here’s a selection for Metro customers to try out:
Vaux, Sunderland
We start a tap room trail in Sunderland, with the world famous beer brand reimagined years after the original brewery closed in 1999. This tap room is located close to Stadium of Light Metro station and also a short distance away from St Peter’s Metro should you wish to visit some of the establishments in Sunderland City Centre.
The tap room is open every Friday and Saturday from 12-10pm and on Sundays 1-7pm. Pizza slices are available to buy, and the tap room is dog friendly too, so bring your four-legged friends along to enjoy the ambience.

The Lighthouse, Fulwell
Sea Road in Sunderland is home to The Lighthouse, located in the centre of Fulwell. Formerly Bojangles cafe, the pub has been transformed into a small but comfortable bar. There are four handpulls and three keg fonts ; the real ales are Double Maxim, a seasonal Maxim beer or a local guest and a real cider. Keg offerings include Lighthouse Craft, a rebadged Swedish Blonde keg. There is a small drinking area at the rear of the pub. Closed Mondays & Tuesdays. There is no music in The Lighthouse so you need to bring your conversations!
