Earlier this year Arriva announced plans to cut some of the services it operates in Newcastle and North Tyneside, due to take effect from 03 September 2023. Arriva has advised that these changes are necessary because the affected services are no longer financially sustainable for them.
Nexus has led efforts to protect local services in the area by encouraging alternative commercial operators to take on as many of the routes as possible.
In response, Go North East and Stagecoach North East have announced that they will be introducing new services that replace much of the cuts Arriva is making. Nexus will also be funding some additional services where commercial operators are not stepping in, using financial support from the Government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan.
Below you will find a summary of the cuts that Arriva will make in Newcastle & North Tyneside, along with details of the planned replacement services being introduced by Go North East, Stagecoach North East and Nexus.
