Courts issue fines for disorderly conduct on Metro

Six people have been found guilty and fined for disorderly conduct on the Metro system.

All of the following cases were heard at North Tyneside Magistrates Court on 8 October 2014.

Thomas Quinn, of Grace Street, Byker, was found guilty of disorderly behaviour at Monument station on 10 July 2014 and was fined £690.

Joseph Byers, of St Cuthbert’s Court, was fined £490 for use of disorderly language at Pelaw station on 10 July 2014.

Alec Sheppard of Frys Lane, Lymington, was found guilty of trespassing at West Monkseaton on 24 July 2014 and was fined £490.

Other recent prosecutions include:

• Wayne Dixon of Barker Street, Newcastle was fined £490 for use of disorderly language at Haymarket station, on 30 June 2014.

• Charles Olagunju of Roker Avenue, Sunderland was fined £490 for use of disorderly language at West Jesmond, on 1 July 2014.

• Jason Suthers of Rectory Place, Gateshead was also fined £490 for use of disorderly language at Haymarket station, on 7 July 2014.

Sharon Kelly, Director of Customer Services and Operations at DB Regio Tyne and Wear, which operates the Metro on behalf of Nexus, said: “Passengers need to understand the impact that acting in a disorderly and abusive manner can have.

“As well as being dangerous, acting in a disorderly manner can really have a negative impact on the journey of other passengers. These types of incidents are very serious and although we would rather not prosecute people, it’s important that they understand the full implications of acting in a disorderly manner, while using our service.”
