Extra Metro services will be operating for Newcastle United’s final home game of the season on Sunday, May 7.
Four additional trains will be in service after the game with Barnsley, which kicks off at Noon, in order to cope with the added demand.
The extra trains will supplement the usual Sunday timetable. Fans are expected to remain in the stadium for longer after the game due it being the final game, so the extra trains will kept in sidings and will be brought into service as the city centre stations start to get busy.
Nexus Customer Services Director, Huw Lewis, said: “Like all matches at St James’ Park we will be operating extra Metro trains after the game.
“There is a chance that Newcastle will end the game as champions and regardless of the outcome we expect a high proportion of the crowd will remain in the ground for longer after the final whistle.
“We have allowed for this and the extra trains will be held in sidings until the match crowd starts to disperse and then brought into service to manage the demand as they are needed.”
