Nexus is running a fun bus complete with its own on-board soft play area to keep youngsters occupied during the school holidays.
The fun bus, which is free, has been based at locations across Tyneside and Wearside and the play facilities have proved popular with the children.
Nexus has laid on the bus on behalf of Network One Ticketing Ltd to promote a special offer on Day Rover tickets on local public transport.
Staff have been on hand to explain the benefits of the cost-effective Day Rover ticket to parents while the kids play on board the fun bus.
The initiative has been made possible thanks to funding from the Government’s Better Bus Area Fund.
The Day Rover, which allows unlimited all-day travel on Metro, the Shields Ferry, buses and some regional rail services, has been discounted from £6.80 to £5.50 for an adult ticket from July 1 until September 30.
Director of Customer Services for Nexus, Tobyn Hughes, said: “The fun bus has been very popular with youngsters and it has given us the chance to speak to parents about public transport and the discount on the Day Rover ticket.
“We have visited locations across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, South Shields and Sunderland. It’s gone really well and it’s been great fun for all the children.”
The Day Rover, which is provided by Network One Ticketing Ltd, makes travel cheaper if changing from Metro to buses in more than one travel zone.
Network One, Nexus and bus operators are making public transport the best option for major events in the region, including the, the London 2012 Olympic Football Tournament in Newcastle and the forthcoming Great North Run.
The Day Rover can be purchased on board local buses and from all Metro ticket machines. For more information on the Day Rover click here
The special offer has been made possible thanks to funding from the Government’s Better Bus Area Fund, announced earlier this year. Grant funding is also being used to improve traffic flow at some of Tyne and Wear’s busiest junctions, and to improve facilities at bus stations.
