Metro services will not be running between North Shields and Monkseaton on Monday March 11 due to the replacement of Beach Road Metro bridge in Tynemouth.
At the weekend, Saturday 9 March and Sunday 10 March, there will be no services running between Wallsend and Monkseaton due to the bridge works and to allow for overhead line replacement work.
Anyone who needs to travel through the affected area should allow extra time for their journey.
A replacement bus, number 900, will be running in the affected areas. Local bus services will accept Metro tickets.
Customer Services Director at Nexus, Huw Lewis, said: “We have reviewed the schedule of work and we need an extra day to get the bridge replacement works done. I’m sorry for the short notice we are giving customers about this.
“We are replacing a bridge which dates back to the Victorian era and we need three full days to get the work done.
“We have a plan for this and that ensures we run replacement buses in the affected area. Please allow extra time for your journeys.”
Metro tickets can be used on the following local buses: Go North East services 1 and 11 between North Shields and Whitley Bay, the W1 and W1A between Whitley Bay and West Monkseaton; Arriva buses 51, 57, 57A between West Monkseaton and Whitley Bay.
Extra staff will be at affected stations to provide assistance and direct customers to replacement buses.
