Nexus is launching two new bus routes to improve links between West Newcastle, the city centre and the MetroCentre. The 84 and the 84A are being introduced from Monday 17 September, providing hourly, Monday to Saturday, daytime links from the heart of Newcastle to western suburbs of the city. The 84 will link the MetroCentre via Benwell and Scotswood. The 84A will link Newcastle to West Denton shopping centre via the RVI, Spital Tongues, Fenham and Slatyford. Nexus is holding a pre-launch event to help introduce new Services 84 and 84A, on Saturday, 8 September, at Denton Residents Hall on Slatyford Lane near Denton Burn, 1pm-4pm. The event for all the family will be a fun day with a strong public transport focus involving stalls, activities, children’s activities and a chance to meet Nexus staff to hear about the new services. The new routes are provided by Nexus using funds from local councils, to fill gaps in the network of bus services provided by private companies. The 84 and 84A replace sections of route previously covered by service 4, Callerton to MetroCentre, and have been introduced following extensive consultation with local residents. The new services provide new links to the RVI hospital and City Centre as well as maintaining links to facilities at West Denton and the MetroCentre. All local bus services paid for by Nexus are reviewed on a regular basis to make sure they meet the needs of local people and provide good value for money. Pre Launch Event Nexus are holding a Pre Launch event to help introduce new Services 84 and 84A. The event for all the family will be a fun day with a strong public transport focus involving stalls, activities, childrens activities and a chance to meet Nexus staff to hear about the new services.
