Improvements to Coast Road bus services

ARRIVA BUS
21 March 2023

From Sunday 26 March Go North East and Arriva North East will be working together to offer improvements to the Coast Road bus services.

There will be a bus up to every five minutes along the Coast Road into Newcastle. They will be the same buses, running the same routes, and customers will be able to use their ticket on any 306, 307, 308 and 309 service, regardless of who runs it.

This means that if customers buy a return ticket on an Arriva service on a morning, they can travel home on a Go North East bus on an evening, and vice versa.

There are now four simple routes:

306 (Go North East) - Newcastle to Whitley Bay via Battle Hill, North Shields & Tynemouth

307 (Arriva) - Newcastle to North Shields via Battle Hill, Hadrian Park & Meadow Well

308 (Go North East) - Newcastle to Blyth via Silverlink, Whitley Bay & Seaton Sluice

309 (Arriva) - Newcastle to Blyth via Battle Hill, Cobalt, Whitley Bay & Seaton Sluice

There will be some changes to the routes:

  • New service 307 will replace services 310 & 311, running between Newcastle and North Shields, serving Coast Road, High Farm, Battle Hill, Hadrian Park and Cobalt South.
  • Service 309 will additionally run via High Farm.

Service X39 will continue to run at peak times, providing fast and direct links between Newcastle and Cobalt. Arriva tickets will not be valid on these special express journeys.
