TV star Steph McGovern got a surprise birthday greeting from the Tyne and Wear Metro today, which was featured on her Channel 4 show.
The team at Steph’s Packed Lunch ran the surprise segment on Wednesday's programme to mark McGovern’s 41st birthday.
Taking inspiration from her recent Metro pub crawl with the South Shields singer Joe McElderry, her team asked if the special message could be played out over the Metro’s public address system.
Nexus, the public body which operates Metro, were only too happy to oblige and recorded the special greeting for the Middlesbrough born star at its Metro Control Centre in South Gosforth in Newcastle.
The audio was then played over the Metro PA system. It was filmed and then broadcast on the show a part of the birthday surprise, which caught McGovern off guard as she was just about to start a consumer affairs chat.
Customer Services Director at Nexus, Huw Lewis, said: “This was a really fun item to be part of. We were happy to help out.
“Our team did a great job getting the birthday message recorded, set up and filmed for Steph McGovern.
“It was all done as a surprise and she knew nothing about it right until it went out on the show. It was a lovely surprise.
“We worked closely with the production team at Channel 4 to make this happen and it has worked really well. Happy birthday, Steph!”
