A Metro footbridge in North Tyneside that was closed for six weeks for repair work has now re-opened to the public - in time for the new school term.
The pedestrian footbridge linking Marmion Terrace and Norham Road in Monkseaton was re-opened on Sunday, 31 August.
Nexus, which owns, manages and is modernising Metro, had planned the work to coincide with school break as the footbridge is well used by parents and children to access a number of local schools.
The work, which involved removing the bridge for repair and re-painting, was completed ahead of the schools going back for the new term this week.
Director of Rail and Infrastructure for Nexus, Raymond Johnstone, said: “I’m pleased to say that this project was completed on time and the footbridge is now back in use.
“We knew the bridge was a key walking route for a number of schools in the Monkseaton area so it was vital that the work was done during the holidays.”
