The Tyne and Wear Metro is delighted to be supporting the Great Exhibition of the North and to be championing the region’s creativity and ingenuity.
As a supporting partner of the free, summer-long celebration of the North of England’s pioneering spirit Metro is making it easy for both Get North Makers volunteers and visitors to travel to events and trails throughout the Great Exhibition of the North.
In support of the 80-day programme of Northern art, design and innovation Metro is providing a free travel offer for the Get North Makers volunteers who will be welcoming three million visitors to the region and bringing to life the exhibition’s three key themes - art, design and innovation.
To celebrate the exhibition Nexus has also launched a limited edition Great Exhibition of the North Pop Pay As You Go card. The PAYG cards will be given to Get North Makers volunteers and are available to the public online at nexus.org.uk.
Pop Pay As You Go is the perfect way to explore the exhibition whilst making savings on your travel costs. Using a Pop PAYG card is 30p cheaper than buying Single Tickets and daily cap fares are 40p cheaper than Day Tickets.
Customer Services Director at Nexus, Huw Lewis, said: “Metro is the best way to enjoy the Great Exhibition of the North, with frequent trains and our stations perfectly placed around the exhibition trails in the heart of Newcastle and Gateshead.
“We are proud to be a supporting partner of the Great Exhibition of the North and to be a part of the team welcoming visitors to our region this summer.
“We’re delighted to be launching a limited edition Great Exhibition of the North Pop PAYG card as well as providing travel for the dedicated Get North Makers volunteers – enabling them to travel across the network welcoming visitors and bringing the exhibitions’ trails to life.
“Today and every day, more than 100,000 journeys will be made on Metro, which is not just part of everyday life but an iconic symbol of our rich engineering and cultural life. Metro will also be popping up throughout the Exhibition programme as we talk about our heritage and our ambitious plans for the future.”
“With such a sensational summer ahead we’re looking forward to welcoming and transporting the thousands of visitors from across the UK and further afield to the wealth of events and exhibitions.”
