Metro services have resumed between Benton and Monkseaton following a 15 day major line closure.
The line re-opened on Sunday morning, 7 August, and Metro services will be running as usual for Monday’s morning peak travel periods as usual.
Nexus, which owns and manages Metro, has replaced a 3.8km section of 50 year-old tracks and track beds.
The major line closure took place from Saturday July 23 until Saturday August 6 and replacement buses ran in the affected area.
The work formed part of the £350m Metro all change modernisation programme.
Director of Rail and Infrastructure for Nexus, Raymond Johnstone, said: “I’d like to thank our customers and our line-side neighbours for their patience during the disruption.
“The line re-opened on Sunday and Metro services are now operating as usual between Benton and Monkseaton.
“This was a major programme of investment in new tracks. Work on this scale on the Metro system happens once in a generation and it is helping to secure to Metro’s future for many decades come.”
