Video: How Metro keeps its trains clean for passengers

Metro train clean
8 June 2011

This latest video highlights the efforts that go into keeping Metro clean for the thousands of passengers who use the service.

DBTW, who operate Metro on behalf of Nexus, has a stringent cleaning programme in place for Metro’s 90-strong fleet of trains.

A dedicated team of cleaning staff work round the clock to keep the Metro carriages clean for when they enter service.

Powerful steam cleaners are used on the trains’ seats to eradicate bacteria, while much of the other cleaning is carefully done by hand.

All of the Metro trains are cleaned thoroughly at Metro’s South Gosforth Fleet Depot in Newcastle. More than 100,000 journeys are made on Metro per day.
