Heres’ five dog-friendly days out you can experience in Tyne and Wear:
Leazes Park - Newcastle
The oldest public park in Newcastle, Leazes park is the perfect place for a dog walk, whatever the weather.
Just a five minute walk from St James and Haymarket Metro stations, the park has a large lake, perfect for doggy paddling, while you can explore the woodland and take in the tranquillity of this green oasis in Newcastle city centre.
Tynemouth – North Tyneside
A fantastic place to stretch your hound’s four legs is Tynemouth, accessible via Tynemouth Metro station with its popular Longsands beach, its dramatic priory, and several dog-friendly pubs. Note some restrictions apply to walking dogs on sections of the beaches during the summer months.
If you want a longer walk, you can head to North Shields and take your dog on the Shields Ferry over to South Shields, where you can rejoin the Metro, or explore even more sandy beaches.
Gateshead Quays and Riverside
A short walk from Gateshead Interchange, Gateshead Quays and riverside offer long walks alongside the Tyne.
Take a mainly flat route to Dunston Staithes and take in the stunning views of the Sage Gateshead, the Millennium Bridge and the iconic Tyne Bridge. Stop at the By the River Brew co for a pitstop or pop over one of the bridges to the Newcastle side of the river and continue your dog walk up through the city.
Roker and Seaburn - Sunderland
A 20 minute walk from Seaburn Metro station, these twin beaches on the Sunderland coast are a haven for your four-legged friend.
With long stretches of golden sands, dog-friendly pubs, and walks along the promenade and the length or Roker Pier, it’s a fantastic day out. Note some restrictions apply to walking dogs on sections of the beaches during the summer months.
Hebburn Riverside Trail - South Tyneside
By the banks of the Tyne, Hebburn Riverside Park is a great place for a short or long walk with your dog.
Take in the sights of the river, spot wild flowers and butterflies and enjoy various sculptures along the way, all within a short walk from Hebburn Metro station.
